Synopsis of Emily in Paris

Emily Cooper is a young American from Chicago with a master’s degree in communications who moves to Paris after receiving an unexpected job offer. Her mission is to bring an American perspective and her social media savvy to a venerable French marketing firm. She soon discovers that cultures clash at every turn: the language, customs and way of approaching work are very different from those in her country. As she tries to adjust to life in a foreign city, Emily must juggle her career, her new friendships and her love life. Created by Darren Star for Netflix, the series stars Lily Collins.

Trivia about Emily in Paris

Darren Star first learned Rebecca Leffer’s story through a producer friend who heard it during a work trip. That producer was so taken with her that he inspired the character of Emily Cooper.

In October 2020, “La Vie en rose,” sung a cappella by Mindy Chen in episode six, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top TV Songs chart.

Netflix revealed on May 3, 2021 that the series had been watched by 58 million households in the month following its premiere.

The wardrobe featured real luxury brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Balmain and Valentino.

Many scenes were filmed at Place de l'Estrapade in the 5th arrondissement, where Emily’s apartment is located, as well as at the Les Deux Compères restaurant and the La Boulangerie Moderne bakery.

A 2024 survey by the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée found that 38% of tourists cited the series as a reason to visit the city.

Season five welcomes Minnie Driver as Princess Jane and Michèle Laroque as Yvette, a former friend of Sylvie. Both join the cast along with Bryan Greenberg, who plays Jake, an American living in Paris.

Netflix renewed “Emily in Paris” for a sixth season, although it has not yet announced its release date.
