Nathan Harper is 18 years old and is in his senior year of high school in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He lives with his parents, Kevin and Mara, and has been suffering from recurring nightmares for some time, which lead him to the office of psychiatrist Geraldine "Geri" Bennett. His life seems calm until one day, while browsing the internet, he finds a photo of himself as a child on a missing persons website. Nathan can't understand what his image is doing there. He starts to wonder whether his parents could have taken him when he was a baby, and decides to find out on his own, though he doesn't yet know how far he is willing to go to uncover the truth about his past.

Lionsgate won a bidding war for Shawn Christensen's screenplay and bought it for 1 million dollars, with Taylor Lautner already attached to the project.

Lionsgate moved the start of filming up to July to fit Lautner's schedule, as he was due to begin with the final two Twilight films for Summit Entertainment.

Lautner was nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actor for his role in the film, but lost to Adam Sandler for Jack and Jill and Just Go with It.

An open casting call for extras held at Carnegie Mellon University drew more than 900 people in June, many of them teenage Twilight fans.

The chase at PNC Park was shot on August 22, 2010, during a real game between the Pirates and the Mets, which ended in a home win by 2-1; Taylor Lautner performed his own stunts with a reduced crew.
