Synopsis of Girls

Hannah Horvath is in her twenties, wants to make a living as a writer and, in the meantime, works as an unpaid intern in New York. She lives in Brooklyn, focused on a literary career that hasn't taken off yet. One day her parents tell her they will no longer cover her expenses, so she'll have to fend for herself. Her friends, who are also looking for jobs, partners and a place of their own in the city, surround her. Created by Lena Dunham, who also stars in it, the series airs on HBO and features Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Adam Driver in the cast. It follows the struggles of four young women trying to find their way in adult life.

Trivia about Girls

Lena Dunham said in an interview that the lack of ethnic diversity in the pilot would be addressed in the second season.

Christopher Abbott left the series on April 4, 2013. On September 6, 2013, Dunham announced on Instagram that filming for the third season had wrapped.

In October 2026, it was reported that HBO had given the green light to a new five-episode series, with filming scheduled for 2027.

The Guardian ranked the series 18 on its list of the 100 best TV series of the 21st century, published in 2019.

The show's look was created using furniture from several vintage shops in New York, including Geminola, owned by Jemima Kirke's mother.

In Australia, the Showcase network had to edit the episode "American Bitch" from the sixth season because of a scene that exceeded the MA15+ rating.

The season one finale barely topped one million viewers, while the season two premiere fell short of that number.

The series drew criticism for its lack of racial diversity and for portraying privileged white characters; the controversy began just hours after the HBO premiere.
