Synopsis of Big Mouth

Nick and Andrew are inseparable best friends attending high school in the suburbs of New York, in Westchester County. Both reach puberty with doubts about their bodies, their desires and what is expected of them, and they try to survive these changes without embarrassing themselves in front of their classmates. Jessi, Jay and Missy join them in their daily school life, each dealing with their own problems. To represent what they feel, the series features the so-called Hormone Monsters, creatures that cling to the boys like sexualized advisers and push them to think the worst at the worst possible moment. The story draws on the experiences of its creators. Created by Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, the series airs on Netflix.

Trivia about Big Mouth

Kroll and Goldberg experienced puberty in opposite ways: Kroll developed late, while Goldberg changed physically very early. That difference is one of the show's central themes.
The first album with songs from the series came out at the same time as season three, on October 4, 2019.
Jenny Slate stopped voicing Missy on June 24, 2020 so that a Black actress could take over the role, and Ayo Edebiri replaced her.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season earned a 100% approval rating based on 23 reviews, with an average score of 8.10 out of 10.
When the series was announced and the first trailer premiered, it received negative reactions, but critics and audiences later embraced it.
Netflix confirmed in April 2023 that Human Resources, the series' spin-off, was canceled after its two seasons.
Netflix renewed "Big Mouth" in April 2023 for an eighth season, which was announced as the last and was released in full on May 23, 2025 with ten episodes.
Season eight featured Cynthia Erivo, Holly Hunter, Steve Buscemi, Kristen Wiig, Quinta Brunson, Nathan Fillion and Keke Palmer as guest voices, among others.
