Synopsis of Grace and Frankie

Grace and Frankie are two older women who have never gotten along. Grace is a retired executive of a cosmetics company she founded herself, blunt and sharp-tongued. Frankie is an eccentric artist with a hippie spirit. Their husbands, Robert and Sol, are partners at a law firm specializing in successful divorces in San Diego, California. One day the two men announce that they are in love with each other and want to get married, forcing the two women to rethink their lives. Both will have to live together and support each other, even though neither one planned on it. The comedy, created by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, streams on Netflix and stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Trivia about Grace and Frankie

In March 2014, Netflix ordered 13 episodes directly as a series, with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin already attached to the lead roles.

In October 2015, it was announced that Sam Elliott would appear in season two as Grace's love interest.

Dolly Parton was confirmed as a guest star in the final season, turning the series into a complete reunion of the cast from 9 to 5.

After the premiere, Fonda and Tomlin protested being paid the same as Waterston and Sheen, and fans gathered nearly 200,000 signatures against that inequality.

The series received five Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series and one Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy.

The seventh season was renewed in September 2019 as the show's last and was set to have 16 episodes, but filming was halted on March 12, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With 94 episodes across seven seasons, "Grace and Frankie" became Netflix's longest-running series until it ended in 2022.

Filming for the final season took two years, and after the pandemic interruption, the sets had to be moved from Paramount to Sunset Gower Studios and rebuilt.
