Synopsis of Modern Family

Three different families live in the suburbs of Los Angeles, united by Jay Pritchett, the family patriarch. Jay has married Gloria, a much younger Colombian immigrant with a passionate personality, who arrives with her son Manny from a previous marriage. Jay's adult children, Claire and Mitchell, have started homes of their own: Claire with her husband Phil and their three children, and Mitchell with his partner Cameron and the daughter they have adopted. The series is presented as a mockumentary, with the characters speaking directly to the camera about their day-to-day lives. The plot is driven by relationships between parents and children, generational differences, and the different ways of understanding family. Created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan, it airs on ABC and stars Ed O'Neill, Sofía Vergara, Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell.

«One big (straight, gay, multi-cultural, traditional) happy family.»

Trivia about Modern Family

The idea for the series was born on the set of The Office, when Lloyd and Levitan were swapping stories about their own families.
The series was originally going to be called My American Family, and the production team was going to be led by a fictional Dutch filmmaker named Geert Floortje.
CBS turned the series down because it was not prepared for the commitment that filming with a single camera would require.
The series won 22 Primetime Emmy Awards, including five for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Starting with the second season, Lloyd and Levitan directed the series separately, each overseeing half of the episodes.
The salaries of the five main adult actors rose from $55,000-$65,000 per episode to $150,000-$175,000.
In its first season, the series was the sixth most-watched scripted show in the United States and the third most-watched new show.
By 2017, the series had earned $72,226,621 from its home video releases in the United States.
