Synopsis of Happy Endings

In Chicago, a group of friends keeps a close eye on the relationship of two of them. Alex and Dave have been together for ten years and are about to get married, but the ceremony comes to a sudden halt when Alex leaves Dave standing at the altar. Jane and Brad, the group's married couple, along with Max, Penny and the rest of the friends, don't know whose side to take. Dave and Alex try to process what happened while the others look for a way to keep their friendship alive, and the group's dynamic starts to wobble. The series, created by David Caspe and aired on ABC, brings together these six friends, played by Eliza Coupe, Elisha Cuthbert, Zachary Knighton, Adam Pally, Damon Wayans Jr. and Casey Wilson.

Trivia about Happy Endings

ABC muted the last line of a Dave joke about Osama bin Laden in an episode taped before the death of the Al Qaeda leader.

A kiss between Max and Ian was cut from the ninth episode of season one, and David Caspe insisted it was a creative decision and not pressure from the network.

The episodes "Bo Fight" and "Barefoot Pedaler," which take place in the weeks after the wedding, aired as episodes 10 and 11 at ABC's decision.

In December 2014, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the show's set was still standing, even though filming wrapped on March 16, 2013.

The countdown that sparked rumors of a fourth season turned out to be a joke posted on April 1, 2015, prepared over 55 days.

Marry Me, the NBC comedy also created by David Caspe, is set in Chicago like this series, and Derrick, played by Stephen Guarino, appears in both.

After ABC canceled the series in 2013, USA Network negotiated to continue it with a fourth season, but dropped the project due to low ratings and promotion costs; Sony TV later looked for other distributors.

In May 2024, Casey Wilson said efforts were underway to organize a continuation, although the writers' contracts, spread across different studios, were still blocking the project.
