Synopsis of Three's Company

Janet Wood, a florist, and Chrissy Snow, a secretary, share a two-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment in Santa Monica, California. When their roommate Eleanor gets married and moves out, they're left with a rent they can't afford on their own. At her going-away party, they meet Jack Tripper, a culinary student who wakes up the next morning asleep in the bathtub and quickly becomes the ideal roommate. The problem is their landlord, Stanley Roper, who won't allow single men and women to live together in his building. To convince him, Janet claims Jack is gay. This sitcom, which aired on ABC, follows the trio as they're forced to keep up a lie in front of a landlord who watches every detail.

Trivia about Three's Company

The show became the highest-rated midseason series ever aired on an American television network, even though observers didn't think it would survive its first six episodes.
Fred Silverman discovered Suzanne Somers's audition for the role of Chrissy the day before filming began, even though he had not seen it before.
The first episode to hit number one in the ratings was «Will the Real Jack Tripper...», which aired on February 14, 1978.
The opening scenes shot when Priscilla Barnes joined the cast were filmed at the Los Angeles Zoo in Griffith Park.
The theme song was written by Joe Raposo, known for his work on Sesame Street and The Electric Company, and performed by Ray Charles and Julia Rinker.
Before filming the pilot episode, the producers even considered replacing John Ritter, feeling that his take on Jack Tripper seemed too effeminate, even though test audiences had approved of him.
In 1980, Suzanne Somers asked for 150,000 dollars per episode and a 10% share of the profits. When the network refused these terms, the actor was dropped from the cast and temporarily replaced by Jenilee Harrison.
The spin-off «The Ropers» premiered right after an episode of «Three's Company» and made Norman Fell and Audra Lindley the stars of their own series.
