Synopsis of Mr. Bean

Mr. Bean is a sitcom created by Richard Curtis and Rowan Atkinson, airing on ITV in the United Kingdom. Atkinson plays the title character, a simple-minded grown man who faces the most ordinary tasks of everyday life. Everything takes place in London, where Bean only sets out to handle a routine errand, but every task goes wrong because of his clumsiness and innocence. He rarely speaks, so the comedy relies on mime and physical gestures. Bean usually gets out of each jam with ingenuity, though at the cost of landing in new messes. Each episode presents a different problem, and the humor comes from the gap between what the protagonist is after and what he ends up causing.

The episode "The Trouble with Mr. Bean" was watched by 18.74 million viewers, one of the series' biggest audiences during its original broadcast on ITV.
The theme song is sung in Latin. The first line, "Ecce homo qui est faba," translates as "Behold the man who is a bean," that is, "Mira al hombre que es una judía."
The first episode did not feature a choral theme song, but an animated instrumental piece also composed by Howard Goodall, plus an incidental melody rather than a main theme.
The first episode won the Golden Rose at the Rose d'Or Festival in 1991, held in Montreux, along with two other major awards.
In 1992, Mr. Bean recorded a single for Comic Relief titled "(I Want To Be) Elected," credited to "Mr. Bean and Smear Campaign featuring Bruce Dickinson," which reached number 9 on the British charts.

"The Curse of Mr. Bean" was nominated in several categories at the 1991 BAFTA Awards, including Best Light Entertainment Programme and Best Comedy, while Rowan Atkinson received three acting nominations between 1991 and 1994.
The fourth season of "Mr. Bean: The Animated Series," produced by Tiger Aspect Kids & Family with Rowan Atkinson as executive producer and voice actor, began airing in the United Kingdom in May 2025.
