Synopsis of Man vs Bee

Trevor Bingley is a separated, clumsy and devoted single dad who works as a caretaker for a luxury mansion while its owners are away on vacation. During his stay, a bee sneaks into the house, and Trevor decides he must get rid of it as soon as possible. His determination to take down the insect leads him to damage valuable items in the home, and each attempt causes a new disaster. This is how the show kicks off. Created by Rowan Atkinson and William Davies and streaming on Netflix, it stars Atkinson himself. The main conflict pits a well-meaning man against a bee that refuses to be eliminated.

Trivia about Man vs Bee

Before the project took off, William Davies had spent years pitching Rowan Atkinson stories about battles with bees, without success.

Atkinson has explained that the show was inspired by a Mr. Bean segment that aired in 1992, although his character is quite different from the one in that comedy.

In the fifth episode, as Trevor showers in the mansion, "Just an Illusion" by the group Imagination plays.

The show borrowed a Jaguar E-Type from its owner, but a replica was built so Atkinson's character could destroy it.

The bee was either a physical model or a computer-generated element by Framestore, depending on whether it was still or in motion.

The show racked up 18.2 million viewing hours in its first weekend, placing it at No. 10 worldwide on Netflix.

Several critics, including Sean O'Grady of The Independent and Camilla Long of The Times, criticized the show for its product placement.

The production team spent 12 weeks filming the show and built the lower part of the mansion at Bovingdon Studios, because the planned destruction made it impossible to use a real house.
