Synopsis of Married... with Children

Al Bundy lives in Chicago and was a high school football player, but now he sells women's shoes at a store and barely makes ends meet. At home, a family that looks down on him awaits. Peggy, his wife, is lazy, doesn't do housework and spends her days watching talk shows while spending the money Al brings in. Kelly, their daughter, is a not-so-bright blonde who has a reputation for being promiscuous. Bud, the younger son, is preoccupied with sex and his failures with girls. Al is still determined to recapture the glory of his high school days. Next door live Steve and Marcy Rhoades, a stuffy banker and his wife, a feminist and environmentalist, and both get dragged into Al's schemes. The series, created by Michael G. Moye and Ron Leavitt, airs on Fox and stars Ed O'Neill.

Trivia about Married... with Children

The show's working title was "Not the Cosbys," a jab at the family sitcoms that were hits on primetime television in the mid-1980s, such as The Cosby Show.
Christina Applegate initially turned down the role of Kelly, so Tina Caspary played the part in the pilot episode. When that didn't work out, the producers asked him to do it again.
During the first season, Christina Applegate, who was 15 years old at the time, earned 20,000 dollars per episode.
Before the premiere, the roles of the Bundy children were recast. Ed O'Neill and the producers feared there was no chemistry with the parents, so the pilot scenes were reshot.
In 2008, the series made Entertainment Weekly's "New TV Classics" list, at number 94.
In the early 1990s, the series averaged more than 20 million viewers each week, although it never became a major ratings hit due to Fox's limited network of affiliates.
The exterior of the Bundy house was filmed in a subdivision in Deerfield, Illinois.
The show's cancellation surprised Ed O'Neill, who learned about it during a casual conversation with a newlywed couple; FOX had not informed him beforehand.
