Synopsis of Suburgatory

Suburgatory is a comedy on ABC created by Emily Kapnek and starring Jeremy Sisto and Jane Levy. George Altman is an architect and single father who has spent years raising his daughter Tessa in an apartment in New York City. When he finds a box of condoms in the teenager's drawer, he decides that they must leave the big city and move to the suburbs, convinced she will grow up in a healthier environment. Once settled in Chatswin, a fictional residential town in southern Westchester County, the Altmans discover they don't fit in with the upper-middle class of the neighborhood. Tessa, who idealizes city life, resists adapting and tries to carve out a place among neighbors who seem far too perfect. Meanwhile, the family will have to learn to live with the customs of their new neighbors and with the pressures of high school.

Trivia about Suburgatory

The title comes from a book by Linda Keenan, a former senior producer at CNN, which hit shelves thirteen days after the series premiered. Its cover describes it as the book behind the ABC comedy.
The opening theme song, "Pleasant Nightmare," was written by Jared Faber and Emily Kapnek and performed by Alih Jey.
The premiere earned a 3.3 among viewers aged 18-49 and drew 9.81 million viewers in the United States.
Jeremy Sisto and Alicia Silverstone had already worked together on two 1995 movies before crossing paths on this series, where she had a recurring role.
Carly Chaikin was nominated for a Critics' Choice Television Award and a Teen Choice Award for her role as Dalia Royce, but she didn't win either award.
The third season was renewed with budget cuts due to a reduced licensing fee, and Alan Tudyk and Rex Lee stopped being regular cast members.
ABC canceled "Suburgatory" on May 9, 2014, after three seasons, because the show had failed to maintain a substantial audience; its broadcast that week drew just under five million viewers.
The series received a nomination at the 2012 People's Choice Awards for Favorite New TV Comedy, but lost the award to "2 Broke Girls."
