Synopsis of Shrinking

Jimmy Laird is a therapist who works at the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center and has not been able to get over the death of his wife. While trying to keep up his role as the father of a teenage daughter and the friend of a lawyer, his patients keep showing up for their sessions. Fed up with keeping his thoughts to himself, Jimmy starts telling them the unfiltered truth, even though it forces him to cross the ethical boundaries of his profession. The series follows the impact of this sudden candor on his life and on the lives of those who trust him. Apple TV+ airs this dramedy created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, starring Segel alongside Harrison Ford.

Trivia about Shrinking

The creators pitched the series to Apple as a three-season project, although they remain open to continuing if a suitable story comes along.

Harrison Ford accepted the role of Paul Rhoades without a script, trusting that Jason Segel, Brett Goldstein, Bill Lawrence and Brian Gallivan would deliver a good one.

Kristen Baldwin of Entertainment Weekly gave the series a B+ and described it as a smart, painful comedy about radical honesty.

Richard Roeper of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the first season 3.5 out of 4 stars in his review.

Apple TV renewed «Shrinking» for a third season of 11 episodes, with the premiere set for January 28, 2026, and new episodes airing every Wednesday through April 8.

The third season brought in Jeff Daniels and Michael J. Fox as guest stars, while also bringing back Brett Goldstein, Damon Wayans Jr., Wendie Malick and Cobie Smulders.
