Synopsis of Fleabag

Fleabag is a British dramedy created and written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who also stars as the lead character. Produced by Two Brothers Pictures for BBC Three, the series is set in London and follows a free-spirited yet angry and confused young woman trying to keep afloat a café that barely earns her a living. Her strained relationship with her sister Claire, with whom she shares a flat and a load of problems, contrasts with a chaotic love life in which her boyfriend Harry comes and goes. The lead character constantly speaks directly to the audience, breaks the fourth wall and comments on events with cutting irony. Amid a failing business, money that's always running short and sexual encounters that leave her unfulfilled, Fleabag searches for a way to move forward.

Trivia about Fleabag

The series adapts the one-woman show that Waller-Bridge premiered in 2013 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where it won a Fringe First Award.

The character grew out of a challenge from a friend: write a ten-minute sketch for a stand-up storytelling night.

The lead character's café, the Guinea Pig Café, was filmed at the Bold Café & Restaurant in Dartmouth Park, in northwest London.

The music for both seasons is composed by Isobel Waller-Bridge, sister of the series creator, who wrote it for both installments.

In September 2019, the series became the first British production to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama included the second season among his favorite movies and TV shows of 2019.

In 2026, the series ranked fifth on The New York Times' list of the 100 greatest TV series of the 21st century.

For the final scene of the second season, the crew tried using two real foxes, but they were terrified of people, buses and the unfamiliar settings, so the production replaced the footage with a computer-generated fox.
