Trivia about Doctor Who

Filming locations for the series include Trefil Quarries North, Treberfydd and Bedwellty House.

The first episode of the rerun, aired in 2005, drew 10.81 million viewers, and the BBC renewed the series for a Christmas special and a second season just four days later.

The first season won a BAFTA for Best Drama Series, the first award ever won by Doctor Who in its television history.

The premiere of Torchwood, a spin-off of Doctor Who, drew 2.4 million viewers on BBC Three, a record for the channel and for a non-sports British production broadcast on cable in the UK.

The BBC has confirmed that it will put the production of Doctor Who out to public tender and announced that it aims to air a new series with specials during 2028 or 2029.

The Doctor Who Christmas special planned for 2026 was canceled after Russell T Davies confirmed that the script had not yet been written and the actor to play the Doctor had not yet been chosen.
