Synopsis of Star Wars: Clone Wars

Star Wars: Clone Wars is an animated miniseries created by Genndy Tartakovsky and aired on Cartoon Network. It is set shortly after Attack of the Clones, when the weakened Galactic Republic and the Jedi are under siege from the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Sith. As the war goes on, more planets slip out of the Republic's control. In the first volume, Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi leads an assault on Muunilinst, home of the Intergalactic Banking Clan, which funds the Separatists. The clan has hired bounty hunter Durge to command its droid armies. Meanwhile, his apprentice Anakin Skywalker is given command of the space forces by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. The series thus presents a war in which the Republic tries to stop the loss of its worlds to an increasingly powerful enemy.

Trivia about Star Wars: Clone Wars

According to reports, Lucasfilm conceived the series as a way to sell more action figures, because the figures from the prequel trilogy were selling below cost.

Art director Paul Rudish explained that Muunilinst, the planet of the Banking Clan, was designed to resemble a U.S. one-dollar bill.

It is the only series premiered on the Internet to have won an Emmy, because it aired simultaneously on television and online, according to the project's own network.

Sha'Gi, the Jedi who fights alongside Ki-Adi Mundi, is a reference to Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, sharing his look and the name he gave himself.

In a scene with people from Coruscant, a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica is hidden, a reference to another science fiction series.

Durge was considered for inclusion in The Clone Wars, but was dropped in favor of the new bounty hunter Cad Bane.

Genndy Tartakovsky said Lucasfilm developed the series in just two weeks with a small team; George Lucas initially wanted episodes of one minute, but Tartakovsky opposed the idea because he considered them commercials.

The success of the series led to the CGI spin-off "The Clone Wars," which premiered in 2008, produced by George Lucas and Dave Filoni without Tartakovsky's involvement.
