Synopsis of Torchwood

Torchwood is a British science fiction series created by Russell T Davies and starring John Barrowman. It airs on BBC Three and is set in Cardiff, Wales, a city split by a space-time rift that draws in beings from other worlds. There, Torchwood Three operates, a small secret agency that works outside the law from a base beneath Roald Dahl Plass, by the bay. Its leader is Captain Jack Harkness, an immortal con man from the far future. The team investigates alien incidents, recovers alien technology and protects Earth from external and human threats. Along with Dr. Owen Harper, computer expert Toshiko Sato and assistant Ianto Jones, Gwen Cooper joins the group, while her boyfriend, Rhys Williams, has no idea what she really does.

Trivia about Torchwood

During the filming of the new 2005 Doctor Who, the tapes for each episode traveled from Cardiff to London under the title Torchwood, to keep anyone from stealing or copying them.

Davies prepared alternate versions of the second season suitable for children, without explicit sexual content or swearing, which made it possible to air at 7 p.m.

The first season, which received mixed reviews, drew ratings that set records for the digital channel BBC Three.

Barrowman said he would not do nude scenes in the first season because they were saving them for the next one, and that he didn't mind taking his clothes off if the pay was good.

Paul Kasey regularly played several aliens under very heavy prosthetics in the first two seasons.

Titan Magazines published an official magazine in 2007 that reached the UK in January 2008 and was discontinued in early 2011, after twenty-four issues.

"Torchwood" was put on indefinite hiatus after Russell T Davies announced it in October 2012; in 2016, John Barrowman said he was negotiating with the BBC for a possible return, but no further news followed.
