Synopsis of Falling Skies

Six months after an alien invasion, Earth is devastated. The invaders have shut down technology and electricity, destroyed most of the world's armies, and wiped out much of the population. Tom Mason, a former History professor at a university in Boston, is trying to survive with his sons. His wife died in the first attack, and one of their three boys has been captured. Tom wants to get him back and protect the other two, so he joins the resistance made up of soldiers and civilians known as the 2nd Mass, which operates out of Boston. To do so, he will have to put his knowledge of military history to the test. Created by Robert Rodat, the series airs on TNT and stars Noah Wyle.

Trivia about Falling Skies

The series was originally titled Concord, referring to the battles of Lexington and Concord and Tom Mason's former profession as a History professor.
Moon Bloodgood did not have to audition for the role of Anne Glass, the female lead, because they received the script and were offered the part directly.
Drew Roy went through four auditions for the role of Hal Mason. In the end, the decision came down to him and another actor, pending approval from Steven Spielberg.
Spielberg wanted to cast Noah Wyle in his 1998 film Saving Private Ryan, but Wyle was unable to take part due to scheduling conflicts.
The fourth episode of the second season, "Young Bloods," was the least-watched of the entire series, with 3.39 million viewers on the night of its premiere.
The fifth season, renewed in July 2014, was announced from the start as the last; the decision was agreed upon by TNT and showrunner David Eick because they felt the series' story arc was complete.
Noah Wyle described the shoot as especially grueling, since they worked through Canadian winters, outdoors and in the rain; they also noted that the series had six different writing teams over five years.
The first season received two Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Special Visual Effects, and the series accumulated fourteen Saturn Awards nominations over its run.
