Synopsis of The Legend of Korra

Korra is 17 years old and belongs to the Southern Water Tribe. Seventy years after the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender, she is the new Avatar, the only person capable of mastering the four elements and keeping the world in balance. She moves to Republic City, a modern metropolis in the United Republic, to train and decide how to fulfill that destiny. The world is divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and the Air Nomads. Some people can manipulate one of the elements through disciplines inspired by Asian martial arts, and these people are called benders. The series, created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, airs on Nickelodeon, with Janet Varney voicing Korra. The starting point is the tension between benders and non-benders in the city.

Trivia about The Legend of Korra

At first, Nickelodeon hesitated to approve a series starring a female heroine, fearing it would limit the male audience, according to Studio Mir's animation director, Yoo Jae-myung.
Pabu, Korra's mascot, was inspired by Futa, a Japanese red panda famous for standing on its hind legs.
The series premiere averaged 4.5 million viewers and was the number one children's program on basic cable television.
Each episode requires around 15,000 drawings, mostly hand-drawn on paper in South Korea by the animators at Studio Mir.
To save airtime, the series' opening titles and end credits last only a few seconds, unlike the long J-pop theme songs of anime.
Konietzko and DiMartino conceived the music by blending traditional Chinese music with early 20th-century jazz.
In 2014, Nickelodeon pulled the remaining five episodes of the third season from its schedule and moved their premiere to digital platforms; Bryan Konietzko clarified that the series had not been canceled and that it would have a fourth season.
