Synopsis of Batman: Caped Crusader

Bruce Wayne takes his first steps as a vigilante in a gloomy Gotham City, inspired by the comics of the 1940s and 1960s. The city is corrupt: crime runs rampant, gangs fight for control of the streets, and part of the police force wants to unmask him and expose him as a fraud. Created by Bruce Timm and airing on Prime Video, the series presents detective cases that link together episode by episode to form a larger story across the season. Batman plays a background role, while Catwoman, Clayface and Barbara Gordon take center stage. The tone is melancholic and more realistic than in previous adaptations, with Hamish Linklater as the voice of Batman.

Trivia about Batman: Caped Crusader

Bruce Timm turned down the chance to continue Batman: The Animated Series, but he recalled several ideas he couldn't use in that series because of its target audience, and those ideas gave rise to the new project.

According to Whip Media, which tracks viewing data from its TV Time app with 25 million users worldwide, this series was the most anticipated new series of March 2024.

Hamish Linklater had never done voice acting before, but he wanted the chance to play Batman and used Kevin Conroy, the character's original voice actor, as a reference.

In January 2022, Ed Brubaker was announced as head writer. He had previously approached Timm as a freelance writer because he believed the writing team was already fully staffed.

Batman's design was inspired by his look in the 1930s comics, which the artists used as a "starting point" for a more stylized style.

Prime Video will premiere all ten episodes of the second season on July 31, 2026; the renewal for a second season was announced before the first season premiered.

The second season will keep Hamish Linklater, Jamie Chung, Jason Watkins, Eric Morgan Stuart, Krystal Joy Brown, Michelle C. Bonilla and Bumper Robinson in its voice cast.
