Synopsis of Amphibia

Anne Boonchuy is an independent and brave thirteen-year-old Thai-American girl. On her birthday, her friends pressure her into stealing a mysterious music box known as the Calamity Box. When she opens it, Anne, Sasha, and Marcy are transported to Amphibia, a swampy tropical island full of dangerous creatures and talking anthropomorphic amphibians. There, the three are separated. Anne is taken in by the Plantar family, a family of frogs, and her goal is to reunite with her friends and get back home. Created by Matt Braly, the series airs on Disney Channel and features Brenda Song as the voice of Anne.

«Life’s never boring when you’re amphibious.»

Trivia about Amphibia

Matt Braly conceived the project during the final stages of Gravity Falls and spent nearly two years working on it before getting the green light.
It is the first animated show with a Thai-American lead, and Braly wanted to see more Thai figures on television.
Three Korean studios handled the hand-drawn animation, and forty staff members from Walt Disney Studios in Burbank also worked on the series.
The actor who voices Kermit in the Muppets, Matt Vogel, appeared in one episode of the second season, although the character himself was featured in the promotional material.
The series won an Annie Award for Outstanding Character Design and was nominated for several other awards.
The song «Welcome to Amphibia» was meant to be the main theme, but Braly convinced the studio to use an instrumental melody.
The series is based on Braly's childhood trips to Bangkok, Thailand.
Brenda Song had to record her dialogue from a closet during the remote production of the second season due to the pandemic, while Bill Farmer already had professional equipment at home.
