Synopsis of Star vs. the Forces of Evil

Star Butterfly is the teenage princess of the magical kingdom of Mewni, in another dimension. Far from being a sweet, calm princess, she enjoys getting into trouble, throwing punches, and fighting monsters. On her fourteenth birthday, she inherits the royal wand, an object of immense power that only the women of her family have held for generations. Her parents send her to Earth to train and learn to control her magic. There she moves in with the Diaz family, along with Marco, and starts attending Echo Creek Academy as an exchange student. Meanwhile, the monster Ludo tries to steal the wand, and Star and Marco travel through exotic dimensions to stop him. The series, created by Daron Nefcy, airs on Disney XD and Disney Channel.

Trivia about Star vs. the Forces of Evil

Daron Nefcy originally created Star as a fourth-grader, inspired by her own childhood obsession with Sailor Moon.

In the first version of the project, Star had no real magical powers. It was an executive who suggested giving them to her.

Nefcy dropped the secret-identity trope typical of magical girl series: Marco's classmates and parents already know about Star's powers.

A 11-minute storyboard required about 2,000 drawings, which had to be completed within a six-week period.

Animation for seasons 2 through 4 was handled by Sugarcube and Rough Draft Studios, both based in South Korea.

The main theme song was composed by Brad Breeck, who also created the theme for Gravity Falls.

The premiere on Disney XD became the most-watched debut of an animated series in the channel's history, averaging 1.2 million viewers.

Two episodes from the third season were nominated for the Annie Awards in 2019, but they lost to Netflix's Hilda.
