Synopsis of X-Men '97

X-Men '97 is an animated series created by Beau DeMayo for Disney+ that revives the story of X-Men: The Animated Series (1992-1997). Set in the nineties, it begins when Professor Charles Xavier, seriously injured after an attempt on his life, is taken into space by Shi'ar Empress Lilandra to recover. Without their mentor, and convinced he is dead, the X-Men try to keep Xavier's dream alive in a world that still refuses to accept mutants. The team must decide how to move forward. Cyclops and Storm want to continue the mission, while Jean Grey seeks to rebuild her life, and Magneto, a former enemy of the group, becomes its leader.

Trivia about X-Men '97

The series' main theme is credited to Haim Saban and Shuki Levy, the music executives of the original series, rather than Ron Wasserman, who was its composer.
It is Marvel Studios' first X-Men project since the company regained the film and television rights to the characters, which were previously held by 20th Century Fox.
The team once again wears its classic legacy costumes, a nod to the failed 1989 animated pilot X-Men: Pryde of the X-Men, according to DeMayo.
The series' version of the main theme was released as a digital single on March 20, 2024, produced by Marvel Music and Hollywood Records.
The second season will have nine episodes and premieres on Disney+ on July 1, 2026, according to Marvel Animation's official profile.
