George Buza is a guy who stands almost six feet six and has a voice that sounds like it comes from the basement of a cathedral.
Born in Cleveland in 1949, his professional career simmered slowly in the Toronto studios. His physical presence was always imposing. But it was his voice that truly opened the doors of the entertainment industry in North America for decades.
In 1992, he took a job voicing a blue mutant with the manners of a philosopher and the strength of a gorilla. No one expected X-Men: The Animated Series to change the rules of the game for television at the time. Buza played Beast with a mix of erudition and weary resignation that no other actor has managed to replicate.
His voice became etched in the memory of an entire generation.
Because Buza didn't just read lines from the script. He understood that the character needed a specific weight in every syllable. So he became the heart of the series across the seventy-six episodes of the original production by Saban Entertainment.
Live-action film also claimed its share of the screen. In 2000, Bryan Singer gave him a cameo in the first X-Men movie that worked as a secret code for insiders. Buza was the trucker who picks up Rogue on a lonely road. He only needed a couple of lines for moviegoers to know exactly who that man behind the wheel was.
But his physique led him down other, more familiar paths.
He has played Santa Claus so many times that his white beard has become a recurring financial asset. In 2015, he appeared in the horror film A Christmas Horror Story, where he played a much darker St. Nick than usual. It was a necessary job for an actor who has always known how to use his imposing frame without slipping into easy caricature.
And the gamble paid off.
Before that, he had already shown his stamina on demanding shoots. Between 1996 and 1998, he played Doubar in The Adventures of Sinbad. That series demanded considerable physical effort due to the locations and the weight of the costumes he had to wear on every outdoor shooting day.
Video game and commercial animation have been his constant refuge since the end of the last century. In 2024, he returned to the studio to reprise his most famous role in the sequel titled X-Men '97. At 75 years old, the voice was still there. He had lost none of the depth that defines him. The recording process followed strict sound fidelity protocols to preserve the technical essence of the original work.
His filmography exceeds one hundred official credits across film, television and specialized voice work.
In 1990, he became a regular in the cast of Maniac Mansion, playing Turner Edison across sixty-six episodes. Production records from that shoot confirm that Buza rarely needed retakes to nail his physical comedy scenes. The series' syndication deal ended up generating residual income for more than a decade thanks to its distribution in international markets.
