Synopsis of The Strain

A Boeing 767 from Regis Air International lands at JFK Airport in New York, arriving from Berlin, and comes to a dead stop in the middle of the runway. Inside are 210 suspected corpses and a strange cargo in the baggage hold. With terrorism ruled out, airport authorities call in the Canary Team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, led by epidemiologist Ephraim Goodweather, played by Corey Stoll. Goodweather and his team must figure out what is killing the passengers before the threat spreads through the city. Created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, the series airs on FX.

Trivia about The Strain

Guillermo del Toro pitched the series as a television production in 2006, but negotiations fell apart when the president of the Fox network asked him to turn it into a comedy.
FX President John Landgraf said the series would have "39-65 episodes, no more and no less."
John Hurt played Abraham Setrakian in the original pilot version but later left the project, and David Bradley had to reshoot the scenes.
The series used twelve swords provided by Zombie Tools, a blade-making company based in Missoula, Montana.
FX reportedly spent $500,000 on creating the series' creatures.
The original poster showed a virus worm crawling through a person's eye, and after public complaints, FX announced it would change the images on several of its billboards.
Carlton Cuse and Guillermo del Toro chose the cast together over nearly a year and, for two or three roles, offered the character to the actor at the first meeting, without holding a broad audition process.
Sean Astin agreed to take part despite knowing from the start that the character would die in episode 8. They also described filming in Toronto as especially cold because of the harshest winter many crew members could remember.
