Synopsis of Preacher

Jesse Custer is a preacher from Annville, a small town in Texas, with a criminal past. After going through a crisis of faith, he discovers he has a newfound power: anyone who hears him obeys his commands. He soon learns that God has abandoned heaven and given up His duties, and Jesse becomes the only person capable of finding Him. To find answers, he sets out on a journey across the country with Tulip O'Hare, his fiery ex-girlfriend, and Cassidy, an Irish vampire with a taste for vice. Dominic Cooper stars as the lead in this supernatural drama that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin created for AMC, based on the comic book of the same name.

Trivia about Preacher

HBO canceled the adaptation in 2008 after its new executive deemed the series too violent and demanded changes that Johnson rejected.

Before reaching television, the rights moved to Columbia Pictures in 2008, and Sam Mendes was attached to direct before leaving the project to shoot Skyfall.

In the original pilot, the character of Odin Quincannon appeared as Vyla Quincannon, played by Elizabeth Perkins, until the writers turned the character into a man, as in the comic book.

Herr Starr appeared briefly in the first season's episode "The Possibilities," though he was played by a different actor, before taking a leading role in the following seasons.

The comic book's authors, Steve Dillon and Garth Ennis, are listed as executive producers of the series since its development.

AMC aired a marathon of the first five episodes on June 30 and July 1, 2016, with behind-the-scenes extras included in each episode.

After its first season, AMC renewed "Preacher" for a second season of 13 episodes; the network described it as the second new cable series of the year among adults aged 18 to 49 and 25 to 54, with 3.3 million viewers per episode in Live+3.

AMC renewed "Preacher" for a fourth season of ten episodes, which began filming in early 2019 in Australia; it was later announced that it would be the last.
