Synopsis of And Then There Were None

In August 1939, eight strangers arrive at Soldier Island, an isolated islet off the coast of Devon, England. They have been summoned by a Mr. and Mrs. Owen, each with a different pretext. No one from the family is at the mansion; they are greeted by Thomas and Ethel Rogers, a newly hired married couple who run the household staff. During dinner, the guests discover ten Art Deco figurines on the table, each representing a soldier. No one knows who gathered them or why, and each guest has something in their past that could condemn them. The series, an adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel, is written by Sarah Phelps and directed by Craig Viveiros. It airs on BBC One.

Trivia about And Then There Were None

The BBC commissioned the adaptation from Ben Stephenson and Charlotte Moore to mark the 125 anniversary of Agatha Christie's birth.

Screenwriter Sarah Phelps told the BBC that the novel's bleakness and brutality struck her, setting it apart from the Marple and Poirot stories.

Maeve Dermody was cast two days before the script reading, while in Myanmar. She flew to the UK to begin working with a dialect coach.

The island mansion was filmed at Harefield House in Hillingdon, on the outskirts of London, while the kitchen scenes were shot at Wrotham Park in Hertfordshire.

Holywell Bay, Kynance Cove and Mullion Cove, all in Cornwall, were used for the harbor and beach scenes.

The first episode drew more than 6 million viewers and was the second most-watched program on Boxing Day.

The adaptation sparked controversy before it aired for including drugs, graphic violence, sex and strong language, elements that some viewers felt went too far from the Agatha Christie novel.

The miniseries received six nominations and won one award, according to the awards record linked to the production on IMDb.
