Synopsis of Sugar

Sugar is an Apple TV+ series created by Mark Protosevich and starring Colin Farrell. Its lead, John Sugar, is a private investigator who roams the darkest neighborhoods of Los Angeles, though he prefers to see the best in people. A very wealthy film producer hires him to find out what has happened to his granddaughter, who has vanished without a trace. Sugar accepts the job and begins talking to witnesses and suspects who don't always want to cooperate. As he goes, he discovers that what seemed like a simple search hides more than one layer, and every clue he finds raises new doubts about who is telling the truth.

Trivia about Sugar

Apple TV+ won a bidding war for the series' rights, announced in December 2021.

Karyn McCarthy was offered a job as producer of the series but turned it down to work on The Acolyte, from Disney+.

Fernando Meirelles directed five episodes of the first season, while Adam Arkin handled three.

The first season received positive reviews and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2024 in the Outstanding Cinematography for a Single-Camera Series (Half-Hour) category.

Apple TV+ renewed "Sugar" for a second season in October 2024, with Colin Farrell returning as the lead and executive producer.

The second season will have eight episodes and premieres June 19, 2026, with a new episode every Friday through August 7.

The new season adds Jin Ha, Raymond Lee, Tony Dalton, Laura Donnelly, Sasha Calle, and Shea Whigham, the latter as a guest star.
