Synopsis of For All Mankind

In an alternate timeline in 1969, Soviet cosmonaut Alexei Leonov becomes the first human to land on the Moon. The result crushes NASA's morale but also drives the United States to try to regain ground in the space race. While the Soviet Union emphasizes diversity by including a woman on its later missions, the American agency is forced to train women and minorities who had been largely left out of the early decades of space exploration. Joel Kinnaman leads the cast as Ed Baldwin, one of NASA's most accomplished astronauts, while Wrenn Schmidt plays Margo Madison, an agency engineer. Created by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi, the series streams on Apple TV.

«The fight for freedom lies beyond the stars.»

Trivia about For All Mankind

According to Ronald D. Moore, the idea came up during lunch with former NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman, while they were discussing an alternate history in which the Soviets reached the Moon before the Americans.

The title is inspired by the plaque left on the Moon by the crew of Apollo 11, whose text reads, in part, "We came in peace for all mankind."

The augmented reality app For All Mankind: Time Capsule won an award for innovation in interactive programs at the Primetime Creative Arts Emmys.

The writers explained in 2023 that their goal was "about seven seasons" and that the story will span "at least 70 years."

The series features historical figures, played by actors or appearing in archival footage, including astronauts, NASA officials and U.S. presidents.

The fifth season of "For All Mankind" will have ten episodes and premieres March 27, 2026, with a new episode every Friday through May 29.

Apple TV+ renewed "For All Mankind" for a fifth season and announced the spin-off "Star City," which focuses on the Soviet space program and stars Rhys Ifans as its chief designer.

Mireille Enos, Costa Ronin, Sean Kaufman, Ruby Cruz and Ines Asserson will join the fifth season as new series regulars.
