Synopsis of Colony

Colony is set in the near future in Los Angeles, a city occupied by an invading force of extraterrestrial origin. Its residents live under the control of the Provisional Colonial Authority, an organization that is part of that force. Will Bowman (Josh Holloway) and Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies) try to keep their family together, including their two children, in a city where every decision can have serious consequences. Their youngest son, Charlie, was separated from them during a school trip when walls built by the invaders cut off part of the city. The series, created by Carlton Cuse and Ryan J. Condal and aired on USA Network, explores how far the Bowmans are willing to go to protect their own and survive together.

Trivia about Colony

The first season had an online sneak peek of its first episode on USA Network's website on December 15, 2015, after the network launched a game-style website to promote it.

Jacob Buster plays Charlie Bowman as a guest star in the first season and as a series regular in the seasons that followed.

In 2025, Josh Holloway acknowledged that the series was about to face “the great war” when it was canceled.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a 84% score based on 31 reviews.

Stephen King praised the series and said that, in a year of remarkable television, Colony is truly something special.

The third season moved filming from Los Angeles to Vancouver after the production failed to secure a California tax incentive, which forced the story to be adapted to its new location.

Carlton Cuse stepped back from overseeing the third season to work on Amazon's «Jack Ryan», and Ryan Condal took over that role along with Wes Tooke.

«Colony» was canceled by USA Network on July 21, 2018, before the final episode of the third season aired, which also became the series finale.
