Synopsis of Lost

An Oceanic Airlines flight traveling between Sydney and Los Angeles crashes on a seemingly uninhabited island in the South Pacific. The survivors must organize to send a distress signal, find food and water, and build a safe shelter. A hierarchy begins to emerge among them, and surgeon Jack Shephard, played by Matthew Fox, becomes their leader. But the island is full of mysteries, and unknown entities threaten their survival. Meanwhile, the episodes alternate between the present on the island and flashbacks to each character's past, showing why they boarded that flight. Created by J. J. Abrams, Damon Lindelof and Jeffrey Lieber, the series airs on ABC.

Trivia about Lost

The idea came from Lloyd Braun, then head of ABC, during a vacation in Hawaii in 2003, as an adaptation of Cast Away mixed with elements of Survivor.

The two-part pilot was the most expensive in the network's history, with a cost estimated at between 10 and 14 million dollars.

The producers changed Sawyer's character to fit Josh Holloway, who got angry during his audition and kicked a chair after forgetting his lines.

Michael Giacchino composed the score with the Hollywood Studio Symphony Orchestra and got some of the sounds by hitting pieces hanging from the airplane fuselage.

The cave scenes in the first season were filmed on a set built in a Xerox parts warehouse, which had been empty since a mass shooting carried out by an employee in 1999.

The scenes set at the Sydney airport were filmed at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Two scenes from season four were filmed in London because Alan Dale, who plays Widmore, was then performing in the musical Spamalot and could not travel to Hawaii.

The series finale received a very polarized reaction from both fans and TV critics.
