Synopsis of MacGyver

Angus MacGyver, Mac to his friends, is an agent of the Phoenix Foundation, a U.S. government intelligence agency that secretly operates under the cover of a think tank. Lucas Till plays Mac in a series set in Los Angeles, where the lead faces high-risk missions alongside a team of specialists. Mac prefers solving conflicts with ingenuity rather than weapons, and his broad knowledge of science lets him turn everyday objects into solutions that save lives and, in some cases, prevent catastrophes. The series airs on CBS and was created by Peter M. Lenkov.

Trivia about MacGyver

Henry Winkler, executive producer of the original series, signed a deal in October 2015 to produce a reboot with James Wan and R. Scott Gemmill for CBS.

MacGyver shares a fictional universe with Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I., and the three series are referred to as the "Lenkov-verse."

In July 2016, Lenkov and Wan wanted Richard Dean Anderson, the actor from the original series, to appear in the new version.

CBS scrapped the original pilot in June 2016, and only Lucas Till and George Eads from the initial cast stayed on for the revised version.

George Eads asked to be released from his contract so he could spend more time with his young daughter, who lives in Los Angeles, while the series is filmed in Atlanta.

Rhett Allain, the series' resident physicist, wrote an official manual with instructions for solving problems in the style of MacGyver, titled The Official MacGyver Survival Manual.

In July 2020, CBS fired creator and showrunner Peter M. Lenkov following an investigation into allegations of a toxic work environment, discrimination and abuse of power connected to several productions.

The fifth season was renewed in May 2020, but on April 7, 2021, CBS announced it would be the last and set the final episode for April 30.
