Synopsis of MacGyver

Angus MacGyver is an agent who works for the Phoenix Foundation, based in Los Angeles, and also collaborates with the Department of External Services (DXS), a United States government agency. He was once a physicist trained at Western Tech and, during the Vietnam War, an explosives technician with the Army Special Forces. His approach to work is thoughtful, and he prefers to avoid violence. Each assignment forces him to solve problems in the field, often with lives at stake, using whatever materials he has on hand. Richard Dean Anderson plays the lead in this ABC series, created by Lee David Zlotoff, which follows his missions and the jams he gets into as he searches for solutions through scientific ingenuity and everyday objects.

Trivia about MacGyver

Winkler got Richard Dean Anderson to audition for the lead role after seeing him in The Love Boat, and both of them believed he would become one of television's new stars.
The series was filmed in Vancouver between the third and sixth seasons because the risk of cancellation due to high production costs forced a change of locations.
For six years, MacGyver aired ahead of Monday Night Football on ABC, the longest such run in television history.
Anderson performed many of his own action scenes, but back injuries and foot surgery from stunt work accidents led him to reduce his involvement in the later seasons.
In 2003, a spin-off titled Young MacGyver was planned, but only the pilot was made.
The pilot episode originally ran 90 minutes, but it was trimmed to one hour with ABC's approval because tests showed it was moving too slowly.
The series received Emmy nominations for Outstanding Makeup in 1987 and Sound Editing in 1989, but it didn't win any of those nominations.
The seventh season was cut down to twelve episodes: ABC pulled the series from its schedule after airing the last of them on December 30, 1991, before canceling it.
