Synopsis of Stargate SG-1

One year after the events of the movie Stargate, the Cheyenne Mountain military base in Colorado Springs is nearly abandoned. There, a team of military personnel and scientists, including Colonel Jack O'Neill and archaeologist Daniel Jackson, handles an alien device called the Stargate, which can open almost instantaneous passages to other planets. When Apophis, the System Lord, bursts into the facility through the gate, the base springs back to life and it is discovered that the Stargate is part of a network connecting countless worlds. Exploration teams are then formed to protect Earth from the Goa'uld, enemies who rule other peoples from pyramid-shaped ships. The series was created by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner and first aired on Showtime.

Trivia about Stargate SG-1

Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner each independently pitched the series concept to MGM, unaware that the other was doing the same.
The title "Stargate SG-1" came from an offhand answer Wright gave to a question from John Symes about what the team should be called.
Richard Dean Anderson agreed to take part on the condition that his character, Jack O'Neill, would have more room for comedy than the one played by Kurt Russell in the movie.
The campus of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver served as the setting for the Tollan capital, an alien civilization.
The producers did not film new shots of the real Cheyenne Mountain complex until season 9, because they believed the series would be canceled every year.
The real Cheyenne Mountain base installed a gate labeled "Stargate Command" in a storage room where they kept brooms and detergent.
"Stargate SG-1" ended after ten seasons and 214 episodes. The TV movies "The Ark of Truth" and "Continuum" were later produced as a continuation of the series.
The cancellation of season eleven was announced in August 2006, shortly after episode 200 aired. Sci Fi Channel claimed the decision was not due to ratings.
