Synopsis of Upload

In 2033, people can upload themselves into an afterlife of their choice in a virtual world. Nathan Brown, a computer programmer, dies prematurely and is transferred to Lake View, an expensive digital heaven. There he discovers that his girlfriend, Ingrid, is still alive and that she exerts a very possessive control over him. Nathan meets Nora Antony, a living woman who works as a customer service representative and is called "Angel." She is his guide to the afterlife. As he tries to get used to the pros and cons of this digital paradise, the series explores coexistence between the newcomer and those who remain in the real world. Created by Greg Daniels for Prime Video, the series stars Robbie Amell and Andy Allo.

Trivia about Upload

Principal photography for the series took place between March 5 and May 10, 2019, in Vancouver, in British Columbia, Canada.

Some exterior scenes of Lake View's virtual world were filmed at the Mohonk Mountain House hotel in New Paltz, New York, where some interior shots were also filmed.

Paulo Costanzo and Mackenzie Cardwell joined with recurring roles while the second season was filming in February and March 2021.

In October 2023, Daniels told Collider in an interview that he expected a fourth season and that writing would begin in November.

Owen Daniels also plays Boris Netherlands in the second season, an out-of-work actor who was paid to use his likeness in Lakeview.

The avatar of Mildred Kannerman, Ingrid's centenarian grandmother, was based on an old black-and-white photograph.

The fourth season of "Upload" was conceived as the last and consists of four episodes, which producer Maxwell Vivian described as a finale equivalent to a movie of about two and a half hours.
