Synopsis of Smallville

Clark Kent is a teenager growing up in Smallville, a fictional town in Kansas, where he lives with his adoptive parents, Jonathan and Martha Kent. He attends the local high school with his friends and his neighbor Lana Lang. There he also meets Lex Luthor, the son of a powerful businessman, sent to run the town's fertilizer plant. After a meteor shower, Clark discovers he has extraordinary abilities. His greatest wish is to lead a normal life, but hiding who he really is becomes harder and harder. Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series airs on The WB and stars Tom Welling.

Trivia about Smallville

Before Smallville, Tollin/Robbins Productions wanted to produce a series about a young Batman, but The WB preferred not to compete with the film Batman Begins and proposed a different idea.

Templeton Secondary School was painted red and yellow during the first season, and eventually adopted those colors as its own.

The Kent farm is a working farm in Aldergrove, owned by the Anderlini family, whose house the crew painted yellow for the series.

Christopher Reeve, former star of Superman, approved the series and made two guest appearances before passing away.

The pilot episode broke The WB's premiere record with 8.4 million viewers.

By the end, Smallville had surpassed Stargate SG-1 as the North American sci-fi series with the most episodes.

The unaired pilot initially cast Cynthia Ettinger as Martha Kent, but the studio decided to reshoot her scenes with Annette O'Toole, whom it considered a better fit for the role.

The WB went as far as shooting a pilot for an Aquaman spin-off starring Alan Ritchson, but The CW scrapped the project after The WB and UPN merged; its production later helped land Justin Hartley the role of Oliver Queen.
