Synopsis of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

In a small Irish bar in South Philadelphia, Paddy's Pub, a group of friends tries to keep a barely profitable business afloat. Charlie Kelly is the janitor, Mac declares himself head of security, and Dennis Reynolds works as the head bartender. The three of them own the bar. Their friend Dee, a frustrated actress, also works behind the bar. Everyone is out for their own benefit, whether it's money, a hookup or getting their way, and they rarely think about the common good. Created by Rob McElhenney, the series shows how those crooked schemes get them into bigger and bigger trouble. It airs on FX and FXX and stars Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Kaitlin Olson.

Trivia about It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

The pilot was shot on a budget of 200 dollars, as was repeated for years, although Day admitted he didn't know where that figure came from.
The FX network proposed bringing in well-known names such as Danny DeVito to give the series more visibility, but the creators hesitated because they feared "ruining the show."
The series grew out of a short film idea that Rob McElhenney came up with one late night, inspired by a scene of one friend asking another for sugar at his house.
The pilot's title comes from the song "The Sun Always Shines on T.V." by the band a-ha.
The facade of Paddy's Pub is the Starkman Building, located downtown Los Angeles on Mateo Street, number 544.
Five episodes were pulled from Hulu for containing scenes with characters in blackface, and those same five are missing from Disney+ in Spain and Latin America.
In December 2020, FX renewed "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" for four more seasons, bringing it to eighteen, a milestone that made it the American live-action comedy with the most seasons.
The seventeenth season premiered on July 9, 2025, simultaneously on FX and FXX, with episodes available on Hulu the following day.
