Synopsis of Mythic Quest

A fictional video game studio produces Mythic Quest, a popular MMORPG, under the direction of its creator and creative director, Ian Grimm (Rob McElhenney). Shortly before launching the game's major expansion, titled Raven's Banquet, the team is preparing its release. Ian argues with lead engineer Poppy Li (Charlotte Nicdao), executive producer David Brittlesbee (David Hornsby) and monetization chief Brad Bakshi (Danny Pudi) about various aspects of development. The series, created by Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day and Megan Ganz, airs on Apple TV and depicts the working lives of those who build that virtual world.

Trivia about Mythic Quest

The idea for the series came from a conversation Ubisoft had with Rob McElhenney about making a TV show about video games.

The Quarantine special was written, shot and edited in three weeks, remotely during the pandemic, using Apple products such as iPhones.

For the series' Everlight special, Anthony Hopkins was chosen as narrator in April 2021.

The American Society of Cinematographers honored the series in 2022 for outstanding achievement in cinematography in a half-hour episode.

The second season earned a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 32 reviews.

Apple TV+ canceled "Mythic Quest" after four seasons and approved changing the final episode to replace the planned cliffhanger with a series ending.

"Side Quest," a four-episode anthology spin-off, premiered on March 26, 2025 and expanded the story with the experiences of employees, players and fans of the fictional video game.
