Synopsis of Legion

David Haller was diagnosed with schizophrenia at a very young age and has since been through several psychiatric hospitals. Committed to the last of them at the decision of his adoptive sister, Amy, he meets another patient, Syd Barrett, who forces him to consider something he had never considered: that there might be more to him than a mental illness. The series, created by Noah Hawley for FX, follows David, played by Dan Stevens, as he tries to figure out what is really happening to him and how far what he perceives reaches. The story takes place in British Columbia, in a universe parallel to the X-Men movies, and raises a constant question: what is real and what isn't.

Trivia about Legion

Syd Barrett's character takes his name from Roger "Syd" Barrett of the band Pink Floyd, whose music was a major influence on creator Noah Hawley.

Hawley asked Jeff Russo to make the music sound like Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, an album that, in his view, is to some extent the soundtrack of mental illness.

Dan Stevens researched mental health extensively for the role, speaking with people living with mental illness as well as with doctors.

Hawley wanted to hire Bill Irwin during the pilot shoot for his "playful approach" to the characters, before the role of Cary Loudermilk even existed.

For the second season, production moved to California to take advantage of the tax incentives offered by the California Film Commission under its "Program 2.0" initiative.

Production designer Michael Wylie tried to sneak Roxxon Corporation and Stark Industries logos in as Easter eggs, but he wasn't allowed to.

Dan Stevens suffered food poisoning during the shoot of a Bollywood-inspired dance sequence, and Noah Hawley decided to wrap the day early.

FX renewed "Legion" for a third season in June 2018, but Noah Hawley later confirmed it would be the last, since that had been his plan from the start.
