Synopsis of Sanctuary

Dr. Helen Magnus, an English scientist who has spent her entire life hunting and protecting the Abnormals, creatures with genetic mutations, runs a Sanctuary in the fictional Old Town. There, these beings can find refuge while she tries to help and understand them better. To do so, she relies on Will Zimmerman, a forensic psychiatrist she recruits to treat the Abnormals, and on her daughter Ashley, an expert monster hunter with a reckless streak who acts as a counterweight to her mother's protective instincts. Her team tracks and studies extraordinary beings who secretly live on the planet, and some of them are truly dangerous. The series, created by Damian Kindler and starring Amanda Tapping, airs on Syfy.

Trivia about Sanctuary

The pilot, "Sanctuary for All," earned a Nielsen household rating of 2.2, the best premiere for a Syfy original series since Eureka's in July 2006.

The series was shot almost entirely using chroma key, and instead of built sets, the locations are generated with CGI.

Sanctuary was the first television series in North America to shoot all of its episodes exclusively with the RED camera.

On May 21, 2012, Syfy announced that the series would not return for a fifth season and that it had been canceled.

The series received ten nominations at the Leo Awards and won four of them in 2009.

Michael Shanks, who played Stargate SG-1's Jimmy in the ninth episode of season two, titled "Penance."

In March 2020, a reboot of "Sanctuary" was announced with Martin Wood and All Canadian Entertainment; Amanda Tapping was negotiating to return as Helen Magnus, though no premiere date was announced.
