Synopsis of Dawson's Creek

Capeside, a fictional town in Massachusetts, is the setting of this series created by Kevin Williamson and aired on The WB. Dawson Leery is fifteen years old, introspective, and dreams of becoming a film director like his idol Steven Spielberg. His best friend since childhood is Joey Potter, a tomboyish girl who often sneaks into his room to watch movies. The third member of the group is Pacey Witter, Dawson's coworker at a video store and a friend Joey often argues with. The arrival of Jen Lindley, who has just moved from New York to live with her grandparents, upsets the balance among the three. Dawson and Joey move between friendship and an attraction neither of them quite admits, while the teens try to figure out who they want to become as they grow up.

Trivia about Dawson's Creek

Williamson described the series as a mix of several productions, including Pump Up the Volume and Little House on the Prairie, and wrote a 20-page outline the same night of his first TV meeting.
Joshua Jackson was initially considered for the role of Dawson, but The WB asked for a different actor, and Williamson chose him to play Pacey Witter.
Katie Holmes won the role of Joey with a tape recorded in the basement of his home, in which his mother read Dawson's lines.
The theme song was "I Don't Want to Wait" by Paula Cole, after the producers failed to secure the rights to "Hand in My Pocket" by Alanis Morissette.
The Leerys', Lindleys' and Potters' houses were filmed at private residences along Hewletts Creek in New Hanover County.
The pilot episode was watched by 6.8 million viewers and earned a 4.8 rating, making it the highest-rated show on the network within two months.
It was especially popular in Australia, where it even topped its time slot on Network Ten for several episodes.
The first season, made up of thirteen episodes, was filmed in its entirety before the first episode aired.
