The O.C.

Ryan Atwood is 16 years old and comes from Chino, a modest neighborhood near Los Angeles. His mother has just kicked him out of the house, and Sandy Cohen, a defense attorney with progressive ideals, takes him into his home in Newport Beach, in Orange County, California. He also lives there with his wife, Kirsten. Ryan finds himself in a wealthy, shallow, closed-off community, very different from the life of domestic violence and poverty he left behind. He tries to adapt to a world he doesn't know without losing himself. He soon becomes friends with Seth, the Cohens' son, a clumsy and witty guy, and meets Marissa, his neighbor. The series, created by Josh Schwartz and aired on Fox, explores the clash between Ryan and a materialistic society, and the gap between that society and an idealistic family trying to hold on to its values.
