Synopsis of Pushing Daisies

Ned is a pie maker who runs the Pie Hole bakery and has a special gift: when he touches a dead body, it comes back to life. But the power comes with rules. If he keeps someone revived for more than one minute, another person of similar life value dies nearby, and if he touches them a second time, the revived person dies for good. Together with his childhood friend Chuck, waitress Olive Snook and private investigator Emerson Cod, Ned uses his ability to solve murders. The conflict begins when Chuck, murdered, returns to life thanks to him. Ned can't touch her again without condemning her, and this emotional dilemma hangs over every case they investigate. The series, created by Bryan Fuller, airs on ABC and stars Lee Pace and Anna Friel.

Trivia about Pushing Daisies

The original concept comes from Dead Like Me, and its creator, Bryan Fuller, intended Pushing Daisies to be a spin-off of that series.

In 2008, Barry Sonnenfeld won the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series for the episode "Pie-lette," the series pilot.

The soundtrack for the first season was set to be released on October 21, 2008, but was delayed until December 23, 2008.

Kristin Chenoweth sings "Hopelessly Devoted to You" from the musical film Grease in the episode "Dummy."

The heavily promoted pilot episode drew 13 million viewers in the United States and was the most-watched new series of the week.

According to the cinematographer, the production wanted a look somewhere between Amélie and a Tim Burton film: big, bright and larger than life.

The writers' strike of 2007–2008 cut the first season to nine episodes, instead of the 22 originally planned.

Bryan Fuller said in 2025 that they were working on a proposal for a third season and that the entire cast wanted to return, although there was no official green light yet.
