Trivia about How to Get Away with Murder

The pilot episode set a DVR viewing record with 6 million viewers, surpassing the 5.6 million that The Blacklist's pilot had posted on January 27, 2014.

In July 2014, it was announced that the show would become a limited series of 15 or 16 episodes per season, a reduced format due to its lead actress's contract with Viola Davis.

The pilot was shot in Los Angeles, at the University of Southern California, and also in Philadelphia and Bryn Mawr, both in Pennsylvania.

ABC aired the series on Thursday nights, alongside Grey's Anatomy and Scandal, in a block of dramas produced by Shonda Rhimes, which was unusual for American television.

Viola Davis became the 2015 Black woman to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for playing Annalise Keating.

The first season won the award for Best Drama Series at the NAACP Image Awards and the GLAAD Media Awards in 2015.

ABC renewed the series for a sixth season in May 2019, but announced that the season would be its last.

The series ended after six seasons and 89 episodes in May 2020.
