Charlie Weber didn't land in Los Angeles with a master plan. Before becoming the face of Shonda Rhimes's productions, he left his hometown of Jefferson City to try his luck as a model in New York. In 1998, he arrived in the big city at nineteen with a portfolio that landed him a contract with the Ford agency.
That physique earned him a spot in Bruce Weber's Christmas catalog for Abercrombie & Fitch. But modeling was only a way to pay the rent while he studied acting at the Stella Adler Studio. His first real break in film came in 2000 with The Broken Hearts Club.
He appeared in season five of Buffy the Vampire Slayer as Ben. That character carried the curse of sharing a body with an infernal goddess, which required him to play constant confusion. It was his first taste of global fan fervor, and the industry began to take notice of his name.
Life after leaving the Joss Whedon series wasn't all smooth sailing.
For years he chained together episodic roles in shows like CSI and Charmed. In 2004, he led Cruel Intentions 3, a production that went straight to home video without a theatrical run. The actor had to learn to handle an industry that often typecast him for his chiseled jaw.
Financial stability arrived in 2014 when he was cast in How to Get Away with Murder. For six seasons, he played Frank Delfino, Annalise Keating's trusted enforcer. The role required a visible physical transformation, with the beard and three-piece suit serving as his character's armor.
Frank Delfino was no hero, but a man capable of murder out of blind loyalty. Weber explored the darkness of a guy searching for redemption in all the wrong places. The chemistry with the rest of the cast drove a show that averaged seven million viewers on ABC.
And then the series ended.
After the show wrapped in 2020, the actor looked for projects that would move him away from the tough, secretive type. That same year he appeared in After We Collided as Christian Vance. It was a move to connect with a much younger audience that barely knew his earlier cable TV work.
In 2023, he starred in The Locksmith, a thriller that shared the bill with Ryan Phillippe. The film was shot in New Mexico as an independent production that aimed to revive the flavor of 90s film noir. Weber played Garrett Field in a plot of revenge and safe-cracking that didn't get much commercial traction.
Shortly after, in 2024, he starred in The Painter alongside Jon Voight. In this film, he plays a former CIA agent trying to live a quiet life devoted to art until his past catches up with him. The movie stands out for its action choreography, which the actor performed without stunt doubles in most of the fight sequences.
Weber's career settled into mid-budget projects.
He prefers short shoots that let him spend time with his daughter at his home in Los Angeles. By 2024, his filmography had surpassed forty titles across film and television. The distribution deal for his most recent film for digital platforms closed for close to three million dollars.
