Synopsis of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy Summers has just arrived in Sunnydale, a small town in Southern California, after burning down the gym at her old high school. All she wants is to forget her destiny as the Slayer, the latest in a long line of young women chosen to fight vampires, demons and other forces of darkness. Her plans get complicated when Rupert Giles, her new Watcher, reminds her that evil is still out there and that she is the only one who can face it. Sunnydale sits on a Hellmouth, a point of mystical energy that draws supernatural creatures up from below. Created by Joss Whedon and aired on The WB, the series follows Buffy, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, as she tries to live an ordinary life between classes and monsters.

Trivia about Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Katie Holmes and Selma Blair competed for the role of Buffy in 1996. Natasha Lyonne turned it down because she did not want to commit to a series at 16 years old.
Nicholas Brendon had little acting experience and had worked as a plumber's assistant, waiter or delivery driver. He landed the role of Xander after four days of auditions.
Alyson Hannigan read Willow's line «most of it» with a cheerful rather than sad tone, and that defined the character and won her the role.
A talent agent spotted David Boreanaz walking his dog on the sidewalk and immediately called casting director Marcia Shulman to say he had found Angel.
Makeup artist Todd McIntosh created the vampire face Buffy is known for, inspired by his love of gothic soap operas such as Dark Shadows.
Buffy premiered on The WB as a midseason replacement for the series Savannah, and played a key role in the network's growth during its early years.
The series was nominated five times for Television Critics Association Awards, and in 2003 it won the Television Critics Association Heritage Award.
The follow-up project "Buffy: New Sunnydale," with Sarah Michelle Gellar as executive producer and Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the new Slayer, was canceled by Hulu in March 2026 before it received a release date.
