Synopsis of Dexter: Original Sin

Miami, 1991. Dexter Morgan has just been hired as a forensic intern at the Metropolitan Police Department, a job that brings him close to homicide investigations. His adoptive father, Harry, a detective in the division, suspects the young man harbors bloodthirsty urges he can no longer ignore. Together they look for a way to channel them through a code that lets Dexter locate and eliminate people who deserve to be removed from society without drawing the attention of officers. It's a difficult challenge for someone who moves among corpses and coworkers. The series, created by Clyde Phillips, airs on Paramount+ with Showtime and stars Patrick Gibson, with Christian Slater as Harry. Dexter's inner voice is provided by Michael C. Hall.

«They're catching killers. He's about to become one.»

Trivia about Dexter: Original Sin

After its premiere, the series became Showtime's most-watched streaming premiere, with more than 2.1 million multiplatform viewers worldwide.
Before it was called Original Sin, the project was titled Dexter: Origins. Showtime commissioned its production on February 6, 2023.
Filming began on June 5, 2024 in Miami, and in August of that same year, it was reported that production had moved to Los Angeles.
Michael C. Hall will provide the inner voice of a young Dexter Morgan, an announcement made at the San Diego Comic-Con panel in July 2024.
Paramount+ renewed the series for a second season in April 2025, but canceled the project on August 22 of that same year before production began.
Patrick Gibson, Christian Slater, and Molly Brown were cast as the leads on May 23, 2024; in June, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, Reno Wilson, and Patrick Dempsey joined as series regulars.
Sarah Michelle Gellar was cast as a special guest star, while Joe Pantoliano, Brittany Allen, Randy Gonzalez, Aaron Jennings, Raquel Justice, Jasper Lewis, Carlo Mendez, Isaac Gonzalez Rossi, and Roberto Sanchez took on recurring roles.
The cancellation came despite the initial renewal and was linked to Paramount's decision to focus its resources on "Dexter: Resurrection," another spin-off of the franchise.
