Synopsis of The Deuce
In early-1970s Times Square, 42 Street, known as The Deuce, is a realm of prostitution and pornography long before the area fills with tourists. Vincent and Frankie Martino, Brooklyn twins played by James Franco, work the neighborhood as a front for the mob's businesses. Eileen Merrell, nicknamed Candy and played by Maggie Gyllenhaal, is an enterprising street prostitute who sees the emerging adult film industry as a way out of street dangers. The series, created by David Simon and George Pelecanos and aired on HBO, shows how these ambitions collide with pimps, underworld entrepreneurs and corrupt cops.
«Once upon a time in America, pleasure became a business.»
