Synopsis of Scavengers Reign

An interstellar cargo ship, the Demeter 227, is severely damaged after a solar flare. Its surviving crew members end up stranded on Vesta, an alien planet full of flora and fauna, but also of dangers. The survivors split into three groups. Sam, the ship's commander, and Ursula, in charge of the horticulture lab, form one of them. Azi, a cargo specialist, travels with Levi, her robot companion. Kamen, an isolated crew member, moves forward accompanied by Hollow, a telepathic creature. All of them try to survive long enough to escape or be rescued. The series was created by Charles Huettner and Joseph Bennett and airs on Max.

Trivia about Scavengers Reign

The original 2016 short lasts eight minutes, has no dialogue, and its backgrounds are inspired by Moebius.

Between 2018 and 2019, the concept became a pilot that didn't move forward at Adult Swim, until HBO Max picked it up.

According to reports, Netflix considered renewing the series, but in November 2024, Bennett confirmed there will be no second season.

The series was nominated for Outstanding Animated Program at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Creative Achievement, and it won the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation award for Background Design.

The animation team included international artists who worked remotely from Mexico, Spain, Portugal, and France.

The series earned four nominations at the 2024 Annie Awards, including Best Animated Television Production for Adults, Writing, Directing, and Production Design.

Charles Huettner initially pitched the project as a story told entirely through images, with no dialogue, a premise he later developed together with Joseph Bennett.
