Synopsis of GLOW

Los Angeles, 1985. Ruth Wilder is an struggling actress who keeps getting turned down at every audition she attends. Tired of this situation, she accepts a tryout alongside a group of women without knowing what it is about. When the director explains that it is for a women's wrestling show called GLOW, Ruth finds herself facing a project she never expected. Her approach to the craft is traditional and highly idealistic, so she clashes with Sam Sylvia, the director, over his cynical attitude and unconventional methods. She also soon discovers that Sylvia has hired Debbie Eagan, her former best friend and a retired soap opera actress. The series was created by Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch and airs on Netflix.

Trivia about GLOW

The creators came across the 2012 documentary GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, and before that, neither of them knew the promotion.

Chavo Guerrero Jr. advised the series and trained the actresses, just as his uncle Mando Guerrero did on the original series.

The gym where the wrestlers train combines a studio set on the inside with the back of the San Fernando Masonic Lodge on the outside.

The full opening theme of each season's first episode uses "The Warrior" by Scandal.

The trailer for the first season featured Quiet Riot's version of "Cum On Feel the Noize," while the one for the third season used Roxette's "Listen to Your Heart."

Netflix canceled the fourth season in October 2020. It had been renewed as the final season, but after one episode was completed and work started on the second, the pandemic made filming wrestling matches with physical contact and a large cast more expensive and complicated.

The fourth season did begin production in Los Angeles in February 2020, but filming was halted in March due to health restrictions and never resumed.

The series won the 2018 Emmy for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Program (Half-Hour) for the episode "The Dusty Spur."
